Christophe Dugué is a French qualified lawyer, member of the Paris bar, practicing as an independent arbitrator and counsel in international commercial arbitration cases, in English and French, under a variety of jurisdictions and applicable laws (civil and common laws). He is a member of various arbitration associations and listed on the panel of arbitrators of several institutions. Former experience includes 17 years at Shearman & Sterling LLP in Paris (1990-2008), with 10 years as Partner in the international arbitration practice group.
With over 30 years of international commercial arbitration practice, he has acted as lead counsel or as arbitrator (chairman, sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator) appointed by institutions (ICC, AFA) or by the parties, in over one hundred international commercial arbitration proceedings (institutional: ICC, PCA, SCAI/Swiss Arbitration Centre, CAIP, AFA etc,) or ad hoc, including UNCITRAL).
Regional experience spans Europe, North, West and South Africa, North America, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, with parties ranging from individuals and medium-sized businesses to public entities, governments, and large international corporations.
Sectors and types of disputes include banking/finance, private equity, construction/civil engineering (including FIDIC), energy (oil & gas, renewables energies) and infrastructure/transportation projects, chemicals, defence, electronic components, mining (gold, diamonds, bauxite), as well as M&A and joint ventures and general international commercial disputes. He also has experience in the resolution of disputes regarding blockchain and cryptocurrencies transactions.
Experience as a transactional lawyer in structuring, drafting, and negotiating international commercial transactions in various fields, including project finance, international finance, M&A finance, structured finance, securitization of trade receivables, equity swaps and derivatives transactions, as well as mining (bauxite, gold, diamonds, in western Africa).
