Monica Barton
Monica is a member of the Financial Industry Group focusing primarily on acquisition and leveraged finance. Monica advises financial institutions, private equity and corporate clients on a broad range of cross-border financing transactions across the ratings spectrum. She has extensive acquisition finance experience, as well as dual capabilities in leveraged finance and distressed debt investments. Acquisition finance transactions include advising sponsors and lenders on leveraged in the U.K. and across Europe through first lien, mezzanine, second lien, term loan B, high yield products, leveraged recapitalizations, bid financings and related intercreditor arrangements. Special situations experience have included restructuring portfolio companies of private equity sponsors such as Endemol and Eircom, advising the consortium of banks on debt-for-equity swaps such as the Paroc, restructuring and the administration of Lehman Brothers. Monica's clients have included Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Barclays, Blackstone, ING, Aston Martin, Bluebay and GIC.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Monica spent 3 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP and 6 years at Linklaters LLP in the London and the Paris offices where she completed secondments at AXA Private Equity (Paris), Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers.
