Stewart is a partner in Fieldfisher's insolvency and reorganisation practice.

He primarily acts for insolvency practitioners, various categories of financier, distressed companies and their directors. Stewart's experience covers the full range of insolvency work, from purchases and sales in trading insolvencies to multinational multimillion pound frauds. By way of example, Stewart acted for the liquidator of T Bank, the first Greek bank to enter special liquidation, and the liquidators of English capital raising SPVs, as part of the Cypriot banking crisis. He acted for administrators of a company in obtaining judgment against more than 20 parties including off shore corporates (the largest being for over £75 million), committed the director behind the fraud to prison for the maximum sentence of two years for contempt of court and recovered real estate and other assets worth approximately £40 million by legal process over a number of jurisdictions, including obtaining the Court of Appeal decision concerning a non-executive directors' duties. He also acted for the Liberty House Group in their purchase of 10 businesses, 3 closed businesses, shares in some companies and 24 properties as one of its acquisitions of the Caparo steel group from administrations.

Stewart also advises distressed debt purchasers on the implementation of their varied realisation strategies, including acting for the administrators and receivers of two companies and their 65 properties, broken into 450 commercial units, in implementing their varied sales, build and development strategies. In the oil & gas sector he advises both operators and contracts on the challenges faced by them, and sits as the only insolvency representative on the LOGIC standard contracts working group.

Stewart has the honour of being the chair of the R3 General Technical Committee, a member of the Policy group and a member of Council, as well as being a member of the Consulting Editorial Board for the LexisNexis Restructuring & Insolvency PSL product.
