Ashley Smith

Ashley is a partner in the Banking and International Finance Group at CMS, where he was promoted to partner in 2003. He advises on all aspects of corporate recovery, insolvency and restructuring, regularly acting for lenders, distressed debt investors, insolvency practitioners and corporates (and their directors). As well as his general insolvency and corporate recovery practice, he also has a particular interest in distressed debt trading and the restructuring and financing issues affecting defined benefit pension schemes.

Notable insolvency cases have included Railtrack, ITV Digital, Blockbuster and the Targetfollow property group. He has also been involved in trading numerous debt and related instruments in the Icelandic Banks and the Enron and Lehman insolvencies, as well as implementing innovative funding structures for pension schemes, acting for corporates and trustees.
