The Rt. Hon Sir Mathew Thorpe

The Rt. Hon Sir Mathew Thorpe was called to the Bar in 1961 (Inner Temple). He held a mixed practice until taking Silk in 1980, thereafter specialising in family law. Counsel to the Cleveland Inquiry 1987, he was appointed a judge of the High Court, Family Division, in 1988 and appointed Lord Justice of Appeal in 1995.

In January 2005, he was appointed Head of International Family Justice for England and Wales.

In summer 2013 he retired from the Court of Appeal, and in September 2013 he returned as an associate member to 1 Hare Court.
