Alistair Watson
Alistair is a partner in the Real Estate group and Head of Planning &
Environment. He has a Master of Laws in Planning from the University of
Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (1994), and is a Legal Associate of the Royal Town
Planning Institute (elected in 2003). He advises on all manner of planning and development control matters, environmental impact assessment and all associated development agreements. He also has specialist expertise advising on rights of light issues. Recognised in The Lawyer Magazine as one of the Hot 100 lawyers for 2016 and in the Legal 500 2015, Alistair is described as "superb - a pleasure to do business with".
Examples of Al's recent experience include:
- acting for Brentford FC on the Planning Application for the development of a new 20,000 seater sports stadium, 910 residential units, and associated transport and social infrastructure;
- advising Saracens Rugby Club on planning and highway matters in relation to its new stadium in the green belt in North London;
- advising one of the UK's biggest developers on the redevelopment of 21 sites across London and the South East for student accommodation schemes and high-value residential schemes;
- acting for Stansted Airport Limited on passenger and air traffic capacity enhancements and the related road and rail infrastructure improvements, and the sustainability strategies in relation to energy, water and waste;
- advising the Purchaser of one of the largest and most complex development sites in Central London, St John's Wood Barracks and the ongoing development proposal for high-value residential development and the associated social infrastructure;
- acting for Amazon UK on all planning matters on its portfolio of logistic warehouses and distribution sheds, and offices;
- acting for owners of listed buildings (Grade II* and Grade II) on their renovation, refurbishment and new build proposals including extensive subterranean development beneath existing buildings; and
- acting for London's biggest waste transfer operator, and advising on all of its planning and environmental matters including site set up, site relocation issues and all licensing issues.
