Philip Simpson#6381

Philip Simpson, KC, CTA

Barrister / Advocate, Faculty of Advocates, Old Square Tax Chambers
Since 2006 I have specialised in tax law (having previously done general commercial litigation). I cover all UK taxes, and have appeared at all levels from the Special Commissioners / First-tier Tribunal up to the Supreme Court. I appeared in the Supreme Court in Taylor Clark v. HMRC, and Scotch Whisky Association v. Scottish Ministers. I am due to appear there in the upcoming case of Balhousie Holdings Limited v. HMRC. My litigation practice is mainly indirect taxes, including VAT, IPT, landfill tax and aggregates levy. My advisory practice is mainly direct taxes, encompassing corporation tax, income / capital gains tax, NICs, pensions taxation, and private client taxation. I frequently deal with cross-border issues, and am fluent in German and French (including technical legal language).
