John Beahn is a partner in the CFIUS practice, based in Shearman & Sterling’s Washington D.C. office.

John has extensive experience representing clients in national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, the “Team Telecom” executive branch agencies and the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. John has successfully represented domestic and foreign clients, including purchasers, sellers, investors, private equity sponsors and consortia, and other institutional investors, in transactions and investments subject to CFIUS and other national security reviews. John has represented clients in a number of the most complex transactions ever approved by CFIUS, DCSA and Team Telecom and has negotiated several of the most comprehensive mitigation agreements executed with the U.S. government. John also represents clients on related national security issues, including supply chain matters, risk mitigation, and compliance monitoring.

John has been repeatedly selected for inclusion in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and was recognized as a “Rising Star” in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications section of Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Rising Stars in 2016. He has also repeatedly been listed in The Legal 500 US.

John also has extensive experience in commercial, regulatory, transactional and national security matters affecting wireline and wireless service providers, information technology providers, equipment manufacturers, social media companies and data aggregators. He also represents private equity firms, investment firms and commercial banks in technology, communications and media matters.
