Amy is an employed barrister within Weightmans’ litigation team.

Before joining Weightmans in January 2018, she practised for a number of years at the independent bar in London as a member of a leading set of barristers’ chambers. She specialises in insurance litigation, with a particular focus on insurance coverage disputes and advice, covering multiple classes of business – including Cyber, Officials Indemnity, Professional Indemnity (particularly engineering and construction), Public Liability and Professional Liability.

She is both an advocacy tutor and a member of FOIL’s Technology & Cyber Liabilities Sector Focus Team. She provides regular commentary on the impact of the gig economy and technology in the context of professional services. Recent coverage instructions have been focused on causation issues arising in the context of claims against cladding contractors and, more generally, on the interpretation and application of business interruption clauses.

In particular, this Practice Note considers three significant areas: (1) the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on working practices and professions; (2) the gig economy; (3) intervention by the Financial Conduct Authority, including the commencement of test case on issues of principle concerning certain business interruption policies. In respect of each of these areas, this note will summarise the key issues and any challenges and opportunities for (re)insurers and (re)insurance practitioners.
