John F. Wilson, KC
Senior Partner John F. Wilson QC is a well-respected authority on Bahamian law generally, having authored numerous Bahamian chapters in international practitioner guides. Specifically he is a respected voice and highly sought after litigator in matters concerning challenges to and the enforcement of international trusts and other offshore structures. Wilson’s courtroom skills and his creativity and ability to absorb and solve complex issues for his clients is well known. He has an extensive commercial litigation practice and also engages in trust advisory work for institutional clients. Clients’ value Wilson’s approachability and responsiveness, which has helped him forge longstanding client relationships with a majority of the institutional trust and private wealth management companies operating in the Bahamas.
In his earlier career Wilson Successfully appeared on behalf of the Appellants as lead counsel before the Privy Council in the landmark case of Massai Aviation v A. G. Appeal No 58 of 2006 opposite James Dingmans QC. Baroness Hale in the Board’s judgment described Wilson as having presented the case with “skill economy and charm”. More recently, Wilson QC has represented the corporate asset manager of USD$104 million dollar Bahamian Trust impacted by certain revisions of the CRS reporting standards. Wilson’s current work also includes representation of a wealthy entrepreneur author in a dispute with Swiss fiduciaries and a claim to a $30 million trust fund; representation of a beneficiary of a $1.5 Billion dollar trust in a dispute with the Trustee and principal beneficiary on appeal from an arbitral award.
