Professor Emyr Lewis, FLSW

Emyr Lewis is Head of Department of Law and Criminology at Aberystwyth University.
 
Before taking up that post in 2019, he practised as a solicitor for 35 years, becoming Senior Partner for Wales at Blake Morgan LlP.
 
His practice covered commercial and public law, state aid and public procurement, and included advising public bodies, NGOs and others about the Welsh devolution settlement and Welsh law.
 
During his time in practice, he also worked as Senior Fellow in Welsh Law at the Wales Governance Centre in Cardiff University, and served for 12 years as the UK’s member of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts scrutinising compliance with the European Charter for regional and Minority Languages.
 
He has given evidence to Senedd and Parliamentary committees about the Welsh devolution settlement, language law and children’s rights, as well as to the various commissions established to review the Welsh devolution settlement.
 
He is also a poet.
