Denise Charlwood
Denise is a dispute resolution lawyer in the Insurance Division of Kennedys’ London office, acting for contractors, construction professionals, engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, insurers and reinsurers.
She regularly acts in complex and high-value litigated, arbitrated and mediated claims, often involving cross-border aspects, concerning product failure, fire, cracking and collapse causing substantial damage.
Denise also advises insurers on policy coverage under CAR, EAR, Professional Indemnity, Product Liability and PL policies.
Her experience includes:
- Pursing a claim against a design consultant following cracking of a Jamaican highway
- Defending a £20M claim against 9 defendants in relation to a serious fire at a cold store
- Pursuing property, contents and BI claims arising out of the Buncefield depot oil explosion for multiple claimants
- Advising insurers following catastrophic losses at UK, Romanian, Algerian and Chilean industrial plants
- Advising on coverage issues in relation to £70m claim for structural damage to a large car park
- Defending a claim alleging the fitting of defective sealing devices at Porton Down research laboratory
- Successfully defending a £60m claim by oil tank manufacturer regarding polymer sold by UK and Scandinavian companies
- Defending manufacturer in £7m claim regarding allegations of defective glass not conforming with sample
- Advising on English law issues in €60m claim pursued in France against Spanish component supplier and insurers.
