Ian acts for institutional landlords, developers, commercial tenants and individuals. His particular areas of expertise include:
- opposed and unopposed lease renewals
- disputes regarding the payment of rent and service charges
- issues regarding break notices
- forfeiture and possession claims
- applications for consent to assign or underlet
- issues regarding disrepair, reinstatement and other breaches
- removal of trespassers
- property-related insolvency issues
- disputes between neighbouring landowners regarding rights of way, boundaries and restrictive covenants.
Ian's work highlights include:
- obtaining injunctions in the High Court to prevent a development in Central London from trespassing against his client's land and to stop it from interfering with his client's right of way
- helping a prominent charity to defend the largest dilapidations claim brought in its history, which was subsequently settled via mediation
- opposing various lease renewals under section 30(1)(f) of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 to help a PLC clear a large mixed use site in Manchester for redevelopment.
