Dr Ellie Brown
Pupil Barrister (solicitor, qualified 2015),
7BR
I trained as a solicitor with DLA Piper in 2013-2015.
In 2015, I commenced a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Oxford, followed by a year of working in-house, as assistant legal counsel where I advised on real estate, intellectual property, data protection and regulatory matters.
I went on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge, in Law and Criminology, where I researched the use of segregation in English prisons and the role of law in these environments. During my PhD, I was seconded to the Sentencing Council where I researched and advised on the development of new sentencing guidelines.
I previously taught a range of legal courses in various prisons including tort, contract and advocacy skills. I was also the Executive Director of the Cambridge Pro Bono Project where I worked on a range of issues including modern slavery complaints, the digitalisation of the English court system, and the legalities and reporting obligations arising from the use of air missiles in Syria, by the British military.
