Tim Speed

Tim is a litigator by trade and is regularly instructed in matters involving insolvencies. For the majority of his career Tim has worked for clients in the energy sector including several of the “Big 6” suppliers, as well as a number of smaller suppliers. Tim has represented various suppliers with high profile customers who have slipped into insolvency.

Tim has also guided a number of suppliers through the SoLR process  and has advised SoLRs about the process and their discussions with Ofgem and the insolvency practitioners.

In 2020/21 Tim acted for Robin Hood Energy Limited who, following the sale of its customers to British Gas, entered into administration in a process designed to maximise recoveries for the creditors and avoid the SoLR process.

Tim currently acts for several insolvency practitioners who have been appointed over insolvent energy supply companies and is currently acting in a high profile matter determining the ability of Ofgem and SoLRs to claim in the insolvencies of energy supply companies which should be determined in late 2022.

Tim also currently acts for a major creditor of an energy supply company who is taking action to place the supply company into administration, which involves co-ordinating the insolvency process with Ofgem’s process to revoke the supply licences.
