Peter Ashford
I have a wealth of experience in environmental law and play a critical role in ensuring the work of the OEP meets expected standards and delivers the organisation’s strategic objectives. I held the position of Head of Legal for the Interim OEP before transitioning to General Counsel following the OEP’s establishment in January 2022.
I worked in private practice for several years specialising in environmental litigation, before joining the Environment Agency where I held a number of roles across the OEP’s corporate, regulatory and flood risk management functions. Immediately prior to joining the OEP, I led the national legal team within the Environment Agency specialising in flood risk management and infrastructure planning issues, advising in particular on issues with national or strategic implications. I was also active in helping establish the European Network of Prosecutors for the Environment (ENPE) as a forum to support public prosecutors in tackling environmental crime across Europe.
