Tom Ohta

Tom is an intellectual property specialist in the award-winning in-house IP Legal team at British Telecommunications plc (BT). He advises all parts of the BT Group (which includes EE), covering contentious and non-contentious IP, policy and general advisory work, with a specialism in copyright matters.

Before joining BT in 2016, Tom was a Senior Associate at Bristows LLP in the Copyright & Digital Disputes / Commercial Disputes teams with particular expertise in copyright and disputes relating to digitally delivered content. He also gained in-house experience on secondment to Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe advising on a breadth of issues relating to its Playstation platform and related services covering videogames, films, music and user-generated content.

Tom is an experienced speaker on copyright issues and has a number of published articles including for Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice, Intellectual Property Magazine, LexisPSL, Computer Law and Security Review, the IPKat blog (of which he is a former ‘GuestKat’) and The 1709 Blog.
