SBP Law Solicitors (SBP) is a boutique London‐based practice that offers “big firm expertise, with superior service” and prides itself on “punching above its weight” in areas often dominated by larger firms.
For years, SBP subscribed to a competitor research tool, supplemented with additional resources. However, the firm’s lawyers found they were experiencing declining reliability and functionality from that provider.
“We were particularly frustrated with the search function, which simply wasn’t returning the results we needed”, explains David Pritchard, commercial litigation and dispute resolution partner. “When searching for something, it often returned tens of thousands of items which weren’t in any order and were often not relevant”. In 2019, the firm decided to trial LexisPSL, which offers clear, up‐to‐date resources for all legal matters. As part of the trial, SBP tested the practice notes, precedents and other best‐practice material.

A single source to meet ALL needs
From the beginning of the trial, practitioners at SBP noticed that LexisPSL could replace their other research tools, paper documents and form providers.
“We realised there wasn’t much point in keeping our other subscriptions when we could meet all our needs by adopting one-stop shopping with LexisPSL.”
Trading multiple subscriptions for LexisPSL also reduced SBP’s costs.
“It allowed us to cut some of the firm’s overhead whilst also improving the speed and quality of service we provide our clients.”
Pritchard notes that everyone at SBP now uses LexisPSL, “We’re a full‐service firm, so different departments use it in different ways. It provides fast answers for general queries, but also enables us to drill down into the granular detail when needed. Overall, LexisPSL really supports our work on a day‐to‐day basis.”
Streamlined workflow and processes
The practitioners at SBP also find the other LexisNexis solutions they subscribe to beneficial. They use LexisLibrary to track case law, stay current on legislation and for research. “I like the way you seamlessly link through to the content in LexisLibrary from LexisPSL”, Pritchard says.
Seamless implementation
When SBP considered switching to LexisNexis products and halting its subscription to other tools, there was initially some scepticism about the change from the familiar. However, this hesitancy dissipated following training from LexisNexis representatives at SBP’s offices.
“Once people saw the system, they felt reassured. Our trainer couldn’t have been any nicer and the transition was seamless thanks to the quality of training provided.”
In addition to general training, the trainer worked with individuals to demonstrate how they could get the most out of Lexis’ solutions for their roles. “They highlighted features that we were not aware of, such as the current awareness alerts that summarise the weekly updates in each practice area”, Pritchard says.
“LexisPSL and the other Lexis solutions support our business in exactly the way we want. They enable us to quickly turn around work and deliver the best possible service to our clients, so we are delighted with the decision.”
