Chris Busby
Chris is a partner in the Financial Services Group and UK Head of the Financial Disputes and Investigations Group at Eversheds Sutherland which comprises around 200 lawyers.
Chris has over 25 years experience and specialises in contentious banking and financial services work including regulatory projects and litigation. Chris has experience of dealing with issues concerning a wide range of products including unsecured and secured lending, current accounts and savings and protection products and pensions. Chris also has wide experience of commercial lending issues including issues concerning construction of facility agreements, security problems and professional negligence claims. Chris has handled various aspects of all the major financial services mis-selling and mass claims issues of the past 25 years including the pensions review, overdraft and credit card charges, endowment mortgages, investments, interest-only mortgages, PPI and data breach claims. Chris also advises on contentious issues concerning the Consumer Credit Act.
Chris is an expert on issues concerning complaint handling, the Financial Ombudsman Service and Claims Management Companies (CMCs), advising regularly on difficult areas and new trends. Chris combines advice on complaints trends with mass court claims driven by CMCs and claimant law firms including collective actions. He also has much experience of working with others in the financial services industry on a common interest privilege basis to tackle emerging issues.
He is regarded by Chambers and Partners (2020) as a leading individual. Chambers states, “[Chris] is experienced advising banks across a broad range of disputes, including large mis-selling claims. According to one client, he is "a very sensible individual who provides pragmatic advice," while another praises his ability to be "very calm, clear and concise in the midst of chaos."
