Kari McCormick

Kari is a partner in Eversheds Sutherland's Financial Services Disputes and Investigations group. She specialises in defending claims against accountancy firms and auditors and representing them in regulatory investigations. She has over 25 years’ experience as a litigator representing clients in the financial services sector in civil disputes and regulatory proceedings; with a particular focus on consumer financial products and misselling.

Kari’s recent experience includes:

  • Acting for a major accountancy firm and the audit partner on a Financial Reporting Council investigation relating to significant prior year adjustments to financial statements. The investigation was closed and no enforcement action taken.
  • Acting for a major accountancy firm and the audit partner on an FRC investigation relating to a significant fraud and subsequent company collapse. The investigation was closed and no enforcement action taken.
  • Acting for a major accountancy firm on a wide ranging FRC investigation relating to policies and procedures. An agreed resolution was reached with the Regulator.
  • Acting for a major compensation body in relation to PPI claims and consumer credit and making significant recoveries.
  • Assisting a major compensation body in assessing liability of SIPP Operators and bringing court proceedings against corporate trustees to recover payments made by investors into SIPPs.
  • Acting for representative creditor of MF Global UK Ltd in High Court and Court of Appeal Proceedings concerning implementation of a CVA.
  • Acting on a Financial Conduct Authority investigation into pension transfer and investment advice given to British Steel workers.

Kari has written numerous articles and speaks regularly on issues affecting accountants, auditors and the financial services sector. She is described in Legal 500 as having an excellent knowledge of the law and being extremely commercial in her approach.
