Article summary
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has published its response to the consultation on the proposed Network Charging Compensation Scheme and its funding mechanism. This proposed scheme is connected to the UK government’s British Industry Supercharger proposal, a set of measures designed to make Energy Intensive Industries (EIIs) more competitive while tackling indirect carbon leakage and the risk that policy costs could lead EIIs to offshore. The government has confirmed that it will take forward the proposed measures to compensate EIIs for 60% of their network charges. In addition, a Statutory Instrument will be laid in Spring 2024 to enable changes to be made to calculations and for savings to start to materialise from April 2024.
