Environmental enforcement round-up—20 December 2024
A round-up of the latest environmental enforcement, including two men sentenced after operating an illegal waste site on their land and doing nothing to prevent it.
The small-scale Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme was introduced in April 2010 and is administered by the Great Britain (GB) energy regulator Ofgem. It was introduced as a response to concerns about the complexity of the Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme and the volatility of the income stream it offers (due to the exposure to market power prices), for small-scale renewable energy projects.
The statutory framework for the scheme is set out under:
the Feed-in Tariffs Order 2012, SI 2012/2782 (as amended), and
standard conditions 33 and 34 (including Schedule A of standard condition 33) of the electricity supply licences issued under the Electricity Act 1989 (EA 1989)
