Insolvency Service reports sentencing of director for exploiting company funds and theft

The Insolvency Service has announced the sentencing of Vasile Hrusca for misappropriating company funds and the expropriation of plant machinery. Hrusca was issued an 18-month suspended prison sentence, disqualified as a company director for four years, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work for the fraudulent withdrawal of £67,000 from his failing company to settle a hire purchase agreement on an Audi RS6, and the sale of plant machinery worth £89,256 that was still subject to hire purchase agreements.

Insolvency Service issues 11-year sanctions on former minicab driver for BBL fraud

The Insolvency Service has imposed stringent sanctions on Huseyin Houssein, a former London minicab driver, for abusing the Covid bounce back loan (BBL) scheme. Houssein fraudulently claimed a £50,000 loan by substantially overstating his business turnover by more than 17 times to secure over £47,000 more than he was entitled to receive.

Law Commission releases FAQ document on digital assets in private international law

The Law Commission has published a document addressing frequently asked questions (FAQs) about digital assets in private international law, with a particular focus on their relationship to tax law, banking regulation and financial markets. This follows the Commission’s Call for Evidence in February 2024 and precedes an upcoming Consultation Paper on law reform proposals. The document aims to clarify how approaches to digital assets by revenue authorities, regulatory bodies and commercial practices may diverge from private international law. It also addresses concerns surrounding tokenised securities and linked assets in commercial contexts. The document was prepared by members of the Commercial and Common Law team at the Law Commission. It has not undergone peer review by Commissioners and is not an official Law Commission publication.
