Section 72(1) of the Arbitration Act 1996: High Court makes detailed obiter comments as to the rights of non-participating parties to seek post-award relief (ADC v AASTAR)

Arbitration analysis: African Distribution Company S.a.R.L (ADC) and AASTAR Trading Pte Ltd (AASTAR) were parties to a London-seated arbitration in which ADC did not participate. After the expiration of the 28 day time limit in section70(3) of the Arbitration Act 1996 (AA 1996), ADC sought to challenge the award under AA 1996, ss 67, 68 and 72(1) on the ground that it was not properly served with the notice of arbitration.

DIS announces changes to Appointing Committee membership

The German Institution of Arbitration (DIS) has announced changes to its Appointing Committee, effective 1 October 2025. Three members—Moritz Keller, Andrea Meier and Patricia Nacimiento—are stepping down in line with statutory rotation requirements. The DIS has appointed three new full members: Emmanuelle Cabrol, Johannes Koepp and Michael Rohls. Additionally, three new substitute members have been appointed: Sebastian D. Müller, Friederike Schäfer and Urs Weber-Stecher. The Appointing Committee oversees the independent appointment of arbitrators within the DIS framework.

Baku Arbitration Centre announces Azerbaijan Arbitration Days 2025

The Baku Arbitration Centre (BAC) has announced that the Azerbaijan Arbitration Days 2025 will take place in Baku from 24–25 October 2025, coinciding with the official inauguration of the BAC.
