Civil appeals to the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal are generally governed by Part 52 of the CPR. General guidance on civil appeals can be found in Civil appeals: general and preliminary considerations—overview.

In addition to the provisions set out in CPR 52 and CPR PD 52A, practitioners appealing in the Court of Appeal also need to comply with the additional provisions set out in CPR PD 52C.

NHS Resolution signs new MoU with Care Quality Commission

NHS Resolution and the Care Quality Commission have formalised their working relationship through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, announced in March 2025, establishes a framework to enhance collaboration between the two organisations in their shared objective of promoting safety and wellbeing in NHS-funded health and social care services across England. The MOU specifically addresses the maintenance of effective communication channels and provides clarity to staff, service users and the public regarding the collaborative working arrangements between the two bodies.

MoJ announces court and tribunal fee changes for April 2025

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has announced that, subject to parliamentary approval, 171 court and tribunal fees will increase from April 2025 to reflect Consumer Price Index (CPI) changes. The majority of fees will see a 3.2% increase, reflecting CPI changes between March 2023 and March 2024, while a small number of fees will increase by 13.5% to account for backdated inflation to March 2022. Additionally, 24 fees will be reduced to ensure they remain aligned with the latest estimate of their underlying cost. The Help with Fees remissions scheme remains available for those unable to afford court fees. These adjustments aim to support the efficient operation of His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service (HMCTS). The announcement includes a full list of the proposed fee changes, with the intention that they apply as from 1 April 2025 for applications received by courts or tribunals on or after that date.
